Gavin Grimm Sets an Example for Transgender Students

My book THEY, which has only been out for 2 1/2 years, was written at a time when I was still struggling to figure out how to handle “the pronoun issue” in a collection whose poems were not arranged chronologically. And I had no idea how to write a poem in which a plural pronoun referred to only one person without causing confusion for the reader. So much has changed! Gavin Grimm, the subject of this article, and his mother are setting an example for transgender kids and their parents everywhere.
